Mom’s German Chocolate PIE Surprise

A home made German chocolate cake will forever be associated with my mother in my mind. Growing up we always had variations on the same cake at family gatherings, birthdays, and special occasions. It was definitely a favorite and I have so many memories of Mom and I trying to get the frosting just right.

And so a strange mystery has came to pass. As I’ve been going through all of mom’s handwritten note cards, newspaper clippings, printouts and sticky notes from the early 90s with recipes quickly saved, I have found several copies of PIE recipes. No cake documentation is anywhere to be found.

Granted there were a wide array of other chocolate based recipes to be had as it is truly a beloved food group. And this looks like a wonderful pie as well – it reminds me of the pseudo-candy bar pie we made that one thanksgiving.

I plan to test bake this delicious pie soon and offer up insights and updated review. In the meantime, the quest for the family cake recipe shall continue.

Final note of interest, I’ve listed all ingredients and instructions as the were uncovered in the original source documents (note cards). Commentary and possible substitutions are in parenthesis.
